This is a very common question in our group so let me explain in detail.
When we started to make Greenshift, we wanted to have only an animation and marketing block set. We did not have plans to have a page builder. But with the help of our lovely community, we started to add more and more powerful features to make Greenshift one of the most feature-rich page builders for WordPress. However, Greenshift is a plugin that has everything, from simple blocks to presets of blocks, professional blocks, WooCommerce blocks, and SEO features. And it’s not always good because, you know, different people have different purposes, skills, workflows, and needs.
So, many users asked us to make a special separate plugin that includes ONLY the GreenLight workflow and blocks (check details about professional and beginner workflow). And finally, we made it. While Greenshift includes everything (including Greenlight blocks), GreenLight includes only the special workflow which we call the GreenLight project.
Let’s answer the most popular questions
Do you plan to abandon Greenshift in favor of GreenLight?
This question makes no sense because GreenLight uses the same components as Greenshift.
Is GreenLight PRO a separate plugin and will you spend more time on it?
No, there is a good analogy for such dividing. It’s like car brands. For example, there is Nissan and Infiniti, Toyota and Lexus. Cars have the same company, same motors, but different design and brand that fits different people. GreenLight PRO is more a brand hack than a technical difference.
Why did you make it? Everyone is confused now
We understand that at the start we can even lose some people. But we must do this for the future. First of all, Greenshift is hosted in the WordPress repository, and this makes a lot of limitations for us in license and stability. After the WordPress drama we can’t rely on one person. GreenLight PRO is fully hosted on our server and we have full access to it. No dependencies on other companies. More safe for us.
Also, in GreenLight we used an absolutely different approach. GreenLight from the start is concentrated on small studios and freelancers, and it’s the only page builder that has NO BRANDING at all, so you can install it for your clients as your own page builder. You can build your own addons around GreenLight as we provide boilerplate and components for developers.
If I am a novice, can I use GreenLight?
Maybe 3 years ago my answer would be NO. But currently, AI can help you learn and build custom CSS and JS even if you don’t know how to code. Greenlight is a no-code tool but with powerful code features. It’s a great balance between code standards and visual design building. So, it’s a great tool to study the basics of web development. And if you don’t want this, you can still use our powerful AI features and ask AI to build blocks for you. Or just use our WebPage converter and copy any section from any site to your blocks.
Even if you are a novice, I recommend GreenLight blocks more because you will study the basics of web development that will be useful for any kind of work in the future.
Are there any critical differences between plugins?
No. If you add Professional blocks in Greenshift and then switch to GreenLight – they will work as usual (but if you will use beginner blocks, they will not work in GreenLight).
There are a few small differences. First – Greenlight has no branding in the admin panel, so, it’s white clean label by default. Second – Query block of GreenLight has enabled custom tags and styling by default. Third – Slider block has another design options and a newer version of Swiper library. That’s all. Other things are common.
